Heroes is a short-story anthology for developmentally disabled teens and adults. It is a book of Psych-Inspirational Fiction, a special kind of fiction designed especially for people living with mental illness (consumers of mental-health services). These stories are easy to read and full of exciting action, but they reveal the deepest emotions and the most intimate secrets in consumers’ minds. Each story is targeted toward developmentally disabled persons with a specific psychiatric disorder: Bipolar disorder(2), Tourette’s syndrome, depression, insomnia, panic disorder, and schizophrenia (2).

P. 7   Aaron and the Aliens. Aaron talks in threes, and this is called Tourette’s syndrome. One day, two visitors arrive from Xaxor, a far-away planet, and the visitors talk in threes too. They are thrown into jail. Can Aaron rescue them? Maybe not. He is terrified of jails.  

P. 22 Cathy's Love Story. An ode to Cathy (not her real name), who lost her beloved husband and became depressed.  

P. 24 A Good Night’s Sleep. Night after night, Marty woke up around midnight . He tossed and turned and couldn’t get back to sleep. Then he saw a psychologist who helped him.  

P. 27 Pins and Needles. When Kara wakes up in the morning, she feels prickly sensations all over her body and pain in her heart. What is happening to her? How can she stop the pain?  

P. 41 Sam and the Voices: Be surprised!
